Lake Tahoe in the Sierra Nevada mountains is a huge alpine lake known for its clarity and depth. Its clarity is primarily due to the fact its fed by countless tiny mountain streams and creeks rather than a large river carrying in silt. However, its gradually loosing clarity as a result of fine sediment produced by development in the area. For now it still looks pristine.

Buckingham Fountain on Chicago's Lakefront. During the summer evenings they put on 20 minute a light and music show. The last time I was there they played stirring classical music, this time it was all patriotic tunes; the Japanese tourists didn't seem to mind.

Most people probably associate Yosemite with the grand vistas from Yosemite Valley, El Capitan, Half Dome, etc. However, I spent all my time hiking in the high country. Some of the trails in the valley attract 20,000 hikers a day in the peak summer season. I frequently went hours without seeing another soul. Of course, those guys in the valley got Half Dome...I got grass! I didn't really plan it this way, but much of the photograpy is on an intimate scale. There were casualties, I lost a cell phone and a cf card with a day's worth of images. Here we have some grass on Siesta Lake.

We stopped to rest at this point up high on the trail. Getting this post up early this a.m., as I'm leaving for a trip out to Yosemite and then up to Lake Tahoe. Should be back by the end of July.

We stayed at the Zion Lodge which is right across this bridge. Its the only lodging within the park. The bridge was quite a welcome sight after long hours hiking.
